As these ingredients ready we can start the process. First, combine 2 cups sugar, 2 cups all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda and ½ cup butter in a bowl while in a small sauce pan boil butter, cocoa and water and immediately remove from the heat. Next add to dry ingredients and mix well. Beat eggs in a small bowl and add vanilla and buttermilk (mix them well and stir into cocoa mixture). The mixture then is poured into greased 15-in x 10-in x 1-in baking pan.
Bake them at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes or until the toothpick inserted at centers comes out clean. Meanwhile boil cocoa, milk and butter in a sauce pan, stirring constantly. Next remove from the heat, add vanilla and sugar and mix well. Spread them over hot cake and immediately sprinkle with nuts. The last step is cooling them completely on a wire rack. This recipe results in 16 to 20 servings depending on sizes.
